Unemployment Rate and Violent Crime

We assume many things go hand-in-hand, like, as Unemployment increases, so will Violent Crime Rates. Well, that is not entirely incorrect. The plot above shows a mediocre relationship between the two, however, there is more to the story as the two are not stronly reliant on one another. Perhaps breaking down unemployment further and delving into payment rates, or resources for the unemployed population by state, and comparing crime rates could shed more light on this connection?
